Our second international workshop at the Himalayan Hemp EcoStay brought together a talented group of participants from India, Nepal, and the Czech Republic to explore the integration of parametric design in bamboo and hempcrete to create sustainable architecture. The workshop featured expert instruction from Architect Rajdeep Raj of Bake it 3D, who guided us through the intricacies of designing parametric structures using Rhino and Grasshopper. Arihant Bajaj from Baans India shared his expertise in bamboo harvesting, splitting, and cleaning, showing us how to create flat pieces that could be combined into longer strips and shaped into parametric curves. Gaurav Dixit from Gohemp led the hempcrete portion, teaching us how to create and apply hemp-lime mixes, including a quick-setting hydraulic variant for insulating bamboo structures. Food and accommodation were thoughtfully managed by Namrata Kandwal and her team at Himalayan Hemp EcoStay, ensuring a comfortable and immersive experience for all participants. With a diverse group of architecture students, architects, engineers, and professionals, the workshop was a collaborative success. The Nepal team, working on their own hempcrete project, received valuable training, while the Czech Republic team, known for their expertise in the hemp sector, brought a vibrant energy to the event.
