Taliban Orders Women to Cover Up in Public, Sparking Anger Among Activists

The Taliban issued a decree last Saturday ordering women to cover their faces in public and stay indoors unless necessary, a move which has sparked criticism from women's rights activists. The decree, passed by the Taliban's Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, outlines three major steps if a woman is found to ignore the decree. It says firstly her home will be visited and her husband, brother or father will be warned. Second, a male guardian will be summoned to the Ministry of Vice and Virtue and given a further warning.
