Amur Maple Repot and Wiring Acer tataricum subsp. ginnala In this video I repot my maple into a more proper draining bonsai mix, and later wire it into a bit of a better shape. I started this video last March, and like most of my videos I didn't really have a good ending to it, so I never ended up uploading it. Today I decided to record a bit more work on it, and when I went to edit up a video I found the old unfinished one... oh well, sorry, here it is now :-) I was always wondering what type of maple this was and last year at the BC Bonsai Society annual bonsai show in Surrey, I saw a tree with basically identical leaves (although smaller and more refined) The tree was labeled "Acer tataricum subsp. ginnala" and while that might not necessarily be the end of the debate, it was a good hint for me, and I think it looks like a good match for my tree. 00:16 Intro 01:50 Starting the repot 13:50 A closet look at the roots 24:00 Two months Later - My channel is mostly Bonsai related, but I make no promises. I like to make videos about air-layering, wiring for bonsai, pruning, growing seeds, and well... anything I find interesting. I am documenting my bonsai progress on YouTube to share what I am up to with my friends and family, to document the progress of the trees so I can look back at them over the years, and maybe show others that bonsai is something that anyone can get started with since really all you need is a tree (or a seed!) and some patience. I've always grown trees in pots; ever since I was a little kid growing apple seeds in elementary school. I think bonsai is a great way to keep interesting species at home without having a lot of space. One of my favorite families of trees are maples, but I'm getting into all sorts of other trees as well. Fruit trees and flowering trees are also super interesting to me, and if it has seeds, I want to try and grow it!
