Intro to Polar Coordinates

In this video, we introduce polar coordinates and learn how the polar plane works. Instead of locating points with 𝑥 and 𝑦, polar coordinates use 𝑟 (distance from the pole) and 𝜃 (the angle measured from the polar axis). We start by explaining the meaning of 𝑟 and 𝜃 and how points are plotted in the polar plane. Then we look at how a single point can be written in multiple equivalent polar forms, including up to four different coordinate representations within the interval −2𝜋 to 2𝜋. Finally, we finish with the two most basic polar equations: 𝑟 = constant (circles centered at the pole) 𝜃 = constant (lines passing through the pole) This video builds the foundation for graphing and analyzing more advanced polar equations and polar graphs.
