VENTOTENE 80. The 'Project of a Manifesto' and the road to European unification Presentation of the publication Ventotene 80 Wednesday 31 August, at 9:45pm Libreria Ultima Spiaggia - Piazza Castello, Ventotene (LT), Italy Speakers : Pier Virgilio Dastoli (President of the Italian European Movement), Mario Leone (Director of the Istituto di Studi Federalisti Altiero Spinelli), Silvana Boccanfuso (author of Ursula Hirschmann. Una donna per l'Europa), Debora Righetti (Jean Monnet House, European Parliament) Online version of the publication available here : https://europeanmemories.net/stories/... On Wednesday 31st August, the Jean Monnet House will present the publication Ventotene 80 in an evening combined with the Ventotene 41st Seminar on Federalism, toghether with the Istituto di Studi Federalisti Altiero Spinelli and the European Observatory of Memories, both collaborating organisations in the issuing of the volume, and Municipality of Ventotene (Latina). The publication commemorates the 80th anniversary of the Federalist Manifesto that antifascist resistants Altiero Spinelli and Ernesto Rossi (with the collaboration of Eugenio Colorni and many others) wrote in 1941 during their imprisonment on the island of Ventotene, and which became a milestone of European unity. The work gathers several contributions analysing different aspects of the Manifesto and the story behind it, from the role played by women in the construction and diffusion of the federalist thought to today’s project of restoration of the Santo Stefano and Ventotene prisons to preserve the common European historical memory. Following up on this collaboration, the three above-mentioned organisations will launch a joint School on European Memories, to be held annually in Bazoches-sur-Guyonne (location of the Jean Monnet House) and on the island of Ventotene. The School will welcome young people from all over Europe with the aim of raising awareness and encouraging research on the memory of the solidarity that led to a united Europe.
