Peter Erik headed to Delta County Colorado and sat down with Jeff Barbee of The Dung Beetle Project. Here is a great discussion where Jeff talks about how The Dung Beetle Technology converts waste plastics into reusable fuels ( such as Diesel and Propane like gas). Upcycling is when you take a resource(i.e Plastic) and process it into a new resource like another plastic or perhaps a fuel, without diminishing the value. Downcycling is the reverse and the once raw resource (crude oil) becomes a waste product that today is at an alarming rate taking over our lakes, oceans, shorelines, and landfills. Every year billions of new plastic is made. A majority of this plastic is for single uses. Straws, food packaging, disposable bottles are just a few to name. Unfortunatley, the system most countries around the world call "RECYCLING" promoted a healthy means to repurpose resources like plastic. Most people are unaware that China has been collecting the vast majority of the worlds Recycleable material. In 2017 China- for environmental purposes banned the import of recyclables from other countries. Since 2018 the world has been reeling to figure out how they can handle a once economically viable relationship. Many countries touting to be "Green" were really just sending their waste to China. With this lack of infrastructure, and lack of transparency to the general public. Cities across the world have had no where else to send their waste but to landfills. As landfills fill up communities are facing disasterous problems in every which way. The Dung Beetle Project is an African based concept which hopes to spread their technology into vulnerable communities that are suffering the worst from the over consumption and production of plastic. Their goal is to provide a machine that is portable, low cost, environmentally positive towards plastic removal, and an economic boost for low employment communities. We only have time here on Earth. How we use it depends entirely on the individual. Jeff, Peter Erik and the rest of the Dung Beetle Project hope that you find their gasification tech beetle to be a meaningful way opportunity to become involved in. Please share their message.
