A recent OP-Ed (or opinion article) in the Los Angeles Times posed this question: What happens when TikTok is your main source of news and information The article says that nearly 40% of Gen Z prefer tik tok and instagram as their search engines. And this--the article claims--leads to the spread of misinformation. In fact, multiple studies and surveys demonstrate that many students have difficulty distinguishing fake news from real news. And one Stanford survey summarized students’ ability to separate digital fact from fiction as “bleak.” So--as a student--and as someone who understands the way young people consume social media and news, your question is this: Is it a problem that many young people use Social Media as their main source of news? Or, is this article just another example of people overreacting to social media. If you believe that young people using social media as their main source of news is a problem, explain why. Why--precisely--is this a problem. Does it lead to misinformation? Does it lead to uneducated voters? Or, is there another problem we are not seeing And if you disagree--once again--explain why. Why, precisely, do you believe that young people using social media as their main source of news is not a problem. Do you believe that social media is still new, and that the news on social media apps will become more reliable over time. Or, maybe you think adults are too quick to judge young people and their use of aasocial media. Whatever position you take, be sure you provide evidence and reasoning. So once again, your question is this.
