They say our hearts bloom brightest in our season of birth.

They say people fall in love most easily in the season they were born. It’s not backed by statistics, but just something someone born in a season like mine, once told me. Perhaps, like all creatures with homing instincts, humans too have an instinct for love. Even if it isn’t true, it’s a story I want to believe. That those born from love would somehow know when it is their time to love, becoming their gentlest, most affectionate selves when the season calls for it. I was born in April, he in March, and we fell in love in May. Though the city is crowded with towering buildings, though we live lives so rushed that even a greeting to a neighbor feels like a luxury, I still believe that the seeds of romance persist. That somehow, even in the cracks of hardened asphalt, flowers will push through and bloom. That we, too, found a way to clear a small forest of love within the seasons we were given. And that we discovered a beautiful reason to explain it all. We were born in seasons neither too hot nor too cold. And in a season just like this, we fell in love. I always knew it wasn’t true that idea about people loving in the season they were born. But still, I came to believe it, as if I had stumbled upon some hidden truth. After all, we were born in such seasons, and we fell in love in such a season, the perfect excuse. And at some point, without even realizing it, we both found ourselves believing in that romantic little lie.
