With the recent concerns nationally and locally about violence prevention and education, and in an effort to better understand the Interrupters model mediation center, Tio Hardiman; Director for CeaseFire at U.I.C (featured in the documentary film) gave a presentation at: Gail Borden Public Library, Elgin, IL Friday, January 18th Community Room A 10:00 a.m. About the Interrupters model: CeaseFire uses Violence Interrupters to mediate conflicts and prevent shootings on the front end. The Violence Interrupters are typically former gang members that have returned to their communities to promote peace and behavior change. CeaseFire uses a three-pronged approach to behavior change: identification and detection, interruption, intervention and risk reduction using credible messengers, changing behaviors and norms.
