This is the first episode of my magic formula investing series, where I will use the Little Book That Beats the Market strategy to build a largely passive value investing portfolio. Joel Greenblatt's magic formula aims to invest in high quality businesses at relatively cheap prices. The book advertises the magic formula as able to produce astounding returns well above the broader market. However, in the near two decades since the book's initial release, the magic formula results have apparently not been so stellar. However, I want to put the strategy to the test. I will add $500 to the magic formula stock portfolio every single month, and I will remove any stocks that fall off the list each month while adding any new additions to the list. In any event, the magic formula investing list is a strong source of stock investing ideas should you want to start researching companies to invest in. We'll see how the magic formula strategy fairs in the current age of investing.
