In 1959, France unveiled one of the most extraordinary machines ever built — the Berliet T100N4, the final and most powerful member of the legendary T100 family. Created to serve in the oil fields of the Sahara Desert, this massive 6×6 truck wasn’t just a vehicle — it was a mechanical monument. The Berliet T100N4 stretched 15.3 m (50 ft) long, 4.96 m (16 ft) wide, and 4.43 m (14.5 ft) tall, weighing nearly 50 tonnes empty and over 100 tonnes fully loaded. It could carry or tow up to 60 tonnes (132,000 lb) of cargo — drilling rigs, pipelines, or machinery the size of houses. Power came from a Cummins VTB-12 V12 diesel engine displacing 29.6 litres, producing a staggering 700 horsepower and 2,800 Nm (2,066 lb-ft) of torque. Paired with a Clark hydraulic transmission and permanent 6×6 drive, the T100N4 conquered dunes, rocks, and soft sands that destroyed ordinary vehicles. Its two-metre-tall tires were so wide that their pressure on sand was lower than a human footprint, allowing the truck to float across dunes like a steel ship on a golden sea. A redesigned panoramic cab offered unmatched visibility — a literal control tower on wheels for the desert. Built for the Hassi Messaoud oil fields in Algeria, the T100N4 became an icon of industrial power, its roaring V12 echoing across the Sahara. Yet only four T100s were ever made — the N4 being the last and most advanced. Today, it stands as a symbol of an era when engineers dared to build the biggest truck on Earth simply because the challenge demanded it. 🔔 Subscribe for more stories about the world’s most powerful, rare, and awe-inspiring machines that shaped human history through engineering brilliance Support the channel and get exclusive perks: / @youtubeonwhels #BerlietT100N4 #BerlietT100 #HeavyTrucks #FrenchEngineering #SaharaTruck #CumminsV12 #IndustrialGiants #VintageTrucks #OffRoadMonster #TruckHistory #ClassicTrucks #HeavyMachinery #BerlietLegend #DesertTitan #EngineeringMarvel #BerlietFrance #T100Truck #OilExploration #BiggestTruck #MechanicalColossus
