Zimbabwe is a country out of control, where the mob rules and the President, Robert Mugabe, seem hell-bent on promoting mayhem. More than a thousand white-owned farms have been occupied, and two white farmers and four black opposition campaigners have been shot dead by marauding veterans of the war of independence. In 2000, Liz Hayes sent a week in Zimbabwe to confront the veterans' leader, known locally as "Hitler", who menacingly asks: "Am I mad... am I a killer?" Liz also meets the survivor of one raid, who suffered shocking injuries, and interviews former Prime Minister Ian Smith, who says President Mugabe is like a cornered, wounded animal - unpredictable and dangerous.
