LA PROTESTS US President Donald Trump has sent National Guard troops into downtown LA after days of big protests in the city. Big crowds, armoured trucks, and burnt cars. Yeah, there's been some pretty hectic scenes in LA over the past few days. It all started on Friday when US immigration authorities carried out a series of raids, arresting people they believed were living in the country illegally. It's all part of US President, Donald Trump's crackdown on immigration. But not everyone agrees with how things are being handled. And while some of the protests were peaceful, others weren't. That led President Trump to call in the National Guard, which is a special military force that's used during emergencies. While Mr Trump says it's about protecting the country, others, including California's leaders, say it's making things worse. KING'S BIRTHDAY 830 Australians were recognised today as part of the King's Birthday 2025 honours. Business people, advocates, scientists and community leaders were recognised for their service, achievements and creativity. Among the recipients, film power couple Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin were recognised for their service to the arts, and former Prime Minister Scott Morrison was recognised for leading the country through the COVID-19 pandemic. FRENCH OPEN It was a big win for Alcaraz against Jannik Sinner, concluding a five hour long final at the French Open, the longest ever. It was devastating for Sinner, who hadn't dropped a set on his way to the final, and was close to claiming victory a few times in the match before Alcaraz fought back in spectacular fashion! Changmao, AKA King Charlie, can singlehandedly end fights by putting dogs in their place. But he's very good at controlling his temper, he goes about it in a really calming way. GIANT PENCIL And finally, to a giant pencil sharpener in the United States, for a giant pencil in the United States. More than a thousand people turned out for the annual sharpening of this pencil, which was made out of an old oak tree that came down during a windstorm a few years back.
