Nothing gets my blood pumping quite like hearing a mallard backpedal in at 10 yards while I'm laying in a floating clump of grass. That's exactly why I've fallen in love with kayak duck hunting over the last few years and try to layout in it every chance I get. On this hunt, Luke and I headed into a public land marsh early in the morning in hopes of getting under a huge flight line that he had seen while hunting out here the day before. Unfortunately we struggled with some thick ice and tough hide for the first few hours of the day, making it tough to pull in the big flocks of mallards that were buzzing around. After grabbing some lunch and brushing in our kayaks until they were invisible, we headed back out to try to catch the evening flight. Once we got to the spot it didn't take long for the ducks to start decoying in and we were able to pick off the last few birds for our all drake mallard limit in short order.
