I thought I had stumbled on a crazy glitch. Turned out it was just part of the boss fight... FML Guess I came at the contract from the 'wrong' direction. Had no idea the Scoia'tael were part of the mission. Watched a bit to see if they would kill Kernun, the leshen boss, for me- as I do. Then I was attacked by an unkillable swarm of birds whose attack was unstoppable.
