Would you buy cannabis from a dispensary owned and operated by your city government? A few cities in Minnesota think yes and are looking at opening their own, which would make Minnesota only the second state in the U.S. to try its hand at government-run marijuana dispensaries. One line in the state’s new cannabis laws allows for cities and counties to “establish, own and operate a municipal cannabis store.” The law appears to be the first of its kind in the country and has prompted cities to research whether they want to open their own dispensaries. While the idea has been floated and rejected in various states, state representatives in Minnesota wanted to come up with a Minnesota-specific model. In Minnesota, communities have had success with municipal liquor stores and some cities have expressed interest in taking the same approach with cannabis. The state’s Cannabis Office is still working on making rules for this new industry but they should be available this summer and adopted by early 2025. #mprnews #reverbmpr #minnesotanews 📝 + 📹 by Nicole Ki, MPR News https://www.mprnews.org/story/2024/03...
