Christ reused Daniel for a new purpose in the Olivet Discourse. Being a Jew who almost certainly celebrated Hanukkah, Jesus knew the events of the Maccabean Revolt and the historical meaning of "the abomination of desolation." He recontextualizes this image for a new purpose, while distinguishing this prediction from the unknown day and hour of his second coming (Matt 24:36; Mark 13:32). Dustin R.
