Understanding Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Lipedema: Key Insights | Dr. Boris Volshteyn Hi guys! I'm Dr. Boris Volshteyn from Atlantic Surgical Associates. Today, I want to talk about Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) in association with Lipedema. Many patients with Lipedema are also hyperflexible, a common trait in EDS. Hyperflexibility can be tested by how far they can bend or if they can touch their thumb to their wrist. This is important because EDS is a connective tissue disorder that requires special anesthesia protocols and poses higher risks during surgery, including postoperative hypotension and orthostatic intolerance. Therefore, overnight observation is often recommended for safety. If you have Lipedema and are hyperflexible, consider the benefits of overnight observation post-surgery. Your safety is paramount!
