GWM Cannon X 2021 Ute - Shaking Up The Ute Market!

Welcome to the GWM Cannon X Ute first impressions and drive video. I'm very excited to look at this ute. I've been using an LDV ute for a long time now so I'm quite interested in looking at the competition. Here are my findings: ✅ I've been testing the manager's vehicle. It has a few upgrades, such as nicer wheels and tires, a hardtop on the back, it has top rails, and a few little extras that don't come standard. ✅ The GWM Cannon X is the top-spec unit, so it gives you a few extra features that the standard model don't supply. ✅ I've driven the ute around town, the highway, some country roads, but not offroad yet. ✅ In terms of price, the Cannon L 4X2 is the base model, which is $38,500 NZD, which is $27,700. USD. The base model still has heated seats, 8-inch wheels, automatic, power in the front seat, leather steering wheel, privacy glass, top-down camera, which is all good ✅ The Cannon L 4X4, next up, is an upgrade of the previous model, which is spec-wise the same but costs $42,490 NZD, which translates to ~$28,400 USD ✅ The Cannon X, moreover, costs $45,490 NZD, which is $30,300 USD. With this unit you're getting a digital display, a couple of smart keys, a wireless phone charger, steering wheel options, tilt slide steering column, an improved interior (which is a lot nicer), and a few other features. The Cannon X comes with Cooper Tires - without US warranty ✅ The transmission is quite nice, this is an 8 speed, and my T60 is only a 6-speed. The Cannon X is very smooth, especially on open roads. Pedal shifters are also included, which I really like - the shifters are a bit too narrow for me though and the speed of shifting is quite slow. ✅ The GWM Cannon X is 120 kW rated, which is more than my T60, which is rated just over 100 kW. Next up, torque is 400 Newton-meters (Nm) and towing capacity is 3,000 kilograms ✅ The ute now has a 5-star safety rating in 2021 and 2022, which is great. Safety features include blindspot warning, automatic braking, and lane assist - the latter is not as smooth as my Skoda family car ✅ The front appearance is quite aggressive - the grill is perhaps too big. The logo looks like the Google Maps icon ✅ On the side of the ute, the mirrors have a camera for parking assist. There's also a side-step here. ✅ In the back, there's a sports bar with some models. A tow bar, moreover, costs $1,600 NZ ($1,060 USD) as an addon. There's also a camera at the back. The deck liner doesn't come over the edge, which is a downside, but you can upgrade this part. Lastly, there are 4 tie-down points in total - I'd have preferred 6 ✅ The backseat has plenty of space, air vents, electric window, USB charger, and 220V power. The car has 4 airbags and tons of indoor storage ✅ In the front, there is a great center column and plenty of space. The displays are all electronic and are a bit busy - physical buttons for many features are also included. The big downside is the Chinese font on the display. The seats and leather on the sides are also very nice ✅ I really love the 4-wheel drive and any future ute or car purchase will have this feature because of safety ✅ The steering wheel looks busy but has many good options that are laid out well. I'd like more brightness on the display behind the wheel ✅ My thoughts on the vehicle? The unit is a lot nicer inside compared to my LDV T60. Compared to the T60 Bi-Turbo it's hard because it was some time ago I test drove that. Compared to my current T60 the GWM Cannon X is much better.
