He is trying to redeem himself for past transgressions after falling to the depths of despair. Harold Finch has given him a path to redemption. Carter is allowing his redemption. Redemption is a common thread here: Fusco is trying to redeem himself for straying. Finch is trying to save lives, almost as though he is redeeming himself for creating the machine. Even Carter is working on redemption for almost having Reese killed. She now protects him and has realized that instead of a cold blooded killer "that somewhere in you, there is a good heart." She keeps him grounded. He asks for her trust and she gives it. Person of Interest has many missing pieces and lost souls, all making for wonderful entertainment and characters that are easy to love.
