One would think by the way mainstream media sensationalizes the Corona Virus that we’re all on the verge of doom. But the truth is far from it. If you’re unlucky enough to get infected by the corona, chances are really good that you’ll recover healthily. As you saw from the thumbnail, the elderly folk infected have a 15% chance of dying. That’s high for sure, but the number drops drastically with age. If you’re under 40 years old, the Corona virus only has a mortality rate of 0.2%. There have only been 8 deaths out of 4,500 reported cases. This information comes from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Ages: 40-49 have a 0.4% mortality rate 50-59 have a 1.3% mortality rate 60-69 have a 3.6% mortality rate and 70-79 have an 8% mortality rate Of course, the 80+ age group has a 14.8% mortality rate. The men have a slightly higher mortality rate than women, of 2.8% vs 1.7%. So in summation, unless you’re 80 years old living in China, you don’t have anything to fear from the corona virus. But it’s still important to frequently wash your hands. All of this begs the question: how does the corona virus compare to the annual flu? It’s hard to say. According to reported statistics, the corona virus is 10x deadlier than the flu. But this statistic doesn’t take into account that many people choose not to see the doctor when they get sick with the common flu, preferring instead to save their time and money and self-medicate. So we don’t know exactly how many cases of the flu occur every year.
