hi everyone In this video talked about Odontogenic keratocyst, OKC and dental cyst. Odontogenic keratocyst is also called as developmental cyst derived from remnants of dental lamina. Clinical features of Odontogenic keratocyst includes more in 3rd to 6th decades, male to female ratio is 2:1, more in mandible than maxilla, in mandible more in molar area, initially like all cysts asymptomatic but in secondarily infected can present with pain and swelling. OKC is sometimes mistaken as tumor having two features locally destructive and show recurrence even if properly treated, but regardless of this behavior it a cyst not a tumor. On radiograph typical presentation is that a radioluciency spreading anterio-posteriorly ,showing no displacement of teeth and no resorption of roots. Treatment of Odontogenic keratocyst/ OKC depends upon size if small complete enuleation but after enuleation additionally two steps followed i.e bathing the cavity with Carnoy,s solution and trimming of some normal bone to avoid and remanents to prevent recurrence. If OKC is large marsuplisation is better option. If border of jaw is involved than resection of jaw is performed with reconstruction. Complications of OKC or Odontogenic keratocyst Pain, swelling, Pathological fracture can occur as well.
