The ASQ-3 and ASQ:SE are developmental-behavioral screening measures designed for parents and other caregivers to complete. A number of quality improvement initiatives at state and local levels are using and/or recommending the use of these tools to meet quality indicators that pertain to screening. While the ASQ and ASQ:SE are relatively simple tools to administer, engaging families in the screening process can be challenging, especially in settings that have limited face-to-face time with families. With planning, training and support, state screening systems can be transformed from simple referral mechanisms to rich services that support young children and families. In this Let’s Talk, you’ll hear examples from states that have incorporated the ASQ-3 and ASQ:SE into quality improvement initiatives. You’ll also learn about strategies states are using to develop systems that support providers in engaging families in the screening process.
