Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacob's Weekly Update. TRANSCRIPT: It’s Friday. Time for another weekly update. This week, I spoke to the senior classes at Farragut High School, Fulton High School, and Career Magnet Academy. I was also at Concord Christian Academy for Constitution Day, spoke at the Seeds of Imagination luncheon, which helps raise money for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, and presented the Tennessee School for the Deaf with a proclamation recognizing their 100th anniversary. BioLargo Energy Technologies, an Oak Ridge company, is working to create a battery that could replace the lithium-ion battery. Those batteries struggle in high heat, often catching fire or not working once they get too hot, but a molten, salt-based battery, like what BioLargo is working on, thrives in heat, making them safer for numerous applications. Of course, a couple of weeks ago, the state announced that Orano will be constructing a multi-billion-dollar uranium enrichment facility, so there are a lot of good things happening in East Tennessee in the energy sector. The Carter Senior Center recently received a $28,000 grant from the Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging. The Center will use the funds to purchase new gym equipment and furniture for the lobby. The Carter Senior serves about 2000 people a month. You can find out more about the programs our senior services offer by visiting knoxcounty.org/seniors. Just a reminder that September is suicide prevention month. You know, discussing suicide prevention can be a difficult topic, but there are ways to help if you think someone is at risk. One is, don’t be afraid to ask questions. Questions like, "Are you thinking about killing yourself?” or “How do you hurt” or “How can I help?” These questions could start an honest, life-saving discussion. For more information about the warning signs and how to approach a suicide crisis, please visit nimh.nih.gov. Vols football faces their first real test of the season when they travel to Norman, Oklahoma to take on the 15th-ranked University of Oklahoma Sooners. But Neyland Stadium will be far from empty this week as country music star Morgan Wallen will be performing there tonight and also Sunday night. Over 160,000 people are expected to attend the two dates. Until next Friday, I hope everyone has a great week."
