In this video I use Messmer's UV Plus Deck and Fence Natural Redwood stain on a 2 year, 6 foot Western Cedar Fence 100 Feet in length. About 2 years ago by neighbor helped me install part of my back fence. At the time (2 - 3 weeks after install) I should have stained and protected it but I did not. I was originally planning to use an airless sprayer from Harbor Freight but a professional painter friend said do not use a sprayer because the oil mist will get over everything, and make a mess and recommended to use a roller. I bought 1 gallon of stain at the time and the returned the sprayer. The gallon sat in the garage for 2 years when finally I decided to stain the fence. Recommended: 1. After about 2 - 3 weeks of install plan to stain the fence. Gather all of your materials either in-town or online. 2. About 2 - 3 days before staining power wash or spray down the fence to clean and open the wood pores and fibers 3. Check the forecast so there is no chance of rain for 2 days after staining 4. Wear old clothes or painters full coveralls, and sun screen or a hat 5. Gather all tools: Roller handle, rollers (3/4 nap for rough surfaces), pole for roller, rubber gloves, roller pan, screw driver, thinner, pliers large slip joint, and a brush for corners. 6. Lay canvas tarps down to protect the area. 7. Plan to stain in the spring before plantings or growth 8. Clear all debris 9. Plan about 5 hours with clean up 10. Always check to make sure the roller handle and pole are tight while painting staining. 11. Spend time to clean up
