Prioritizing respite over glamour, Jouin Manku’s design for Mutigny Resort Hotel in France’s Champagne region – the subject of our second FRAME Views: Localized Hospitality video – places all emphasis on the terroir and materiality. Situated next to the valleys and forest of Mutigny, France, Mutingy Resort Hotel has 101 standard, executive and suite rooms, and a spa, outfitted in natural materials befitting of the setting. With the interior, Jouin Manku aimed to divert from champagne’s luxurious image, instead focusing on its natural origins and the work that goes into producing it. The spatial experience is laid out in two levels – above ground, where the rooms are, and below, where one finds the spa. This planning replicates the journey of a grape from the vineyards to cellars, providing guests with a feeling of exploration.
