The Battle of Mome Gorge, which occurred on 10 June 1906, marked the end of the Bambatha Rebellion in what is now KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The rebellion was led by Bambatha kaMancinza, a Zulu chief who opposed the British colonial authorities' imposition of poll taxes on the Zulu people. This tax, introduced in 1905, placed a heavy financial burden on the local population, sparking widespread discontent. Bambatha and his followers sought to resist the colonial government, and after several skirmishes, they retreated into the rugged Mome Gorge in the Nkandla Forest. The British forces, commanded by Colonel Duncan McKenzie, launched a full-scale assault on the rebels, using machine guns and artillery. The rebels, primarily armed with traditional weapons like spears and shields, were heavily outmatched. 00:00 Introduction 01:20 The Zulu resentment grows 02:04 The Rebellion begins 03:23 Skirmishes in the forest 03:55 The British try to flush out the Zulus 04:14 The Skirmishes continue 05:02 The British begin to close in 05:28 The British prepare for battle 06:21 The British bombard the Zulu positions 06:49 The Battle begins 08:16 Impacts of the Battle 08:49 Aftermath
