Every once in a while we run across a wine and ask ourselves, “How come we’ve never had THIS before?!?” This week was one of those weeks! We are always on the hunt for High QPR wines, and Monastrell may be the definition of a High QPR wine. Two of the wines we tasted sell for about $11, and they are outstanding. Also known as Mourvèdre, Mataro, and a bunch of other names, Monastrell is the Spanish name for this wine, and is the “M” in GSM blends. But, as a standalone wine, it is an underrated knock out! Hailing from the east coast of Spain, Monastrell is a wine that needs to find its way onto your dinner table, especially if you are a fan of big, bold, spicy red wines. Perfect for steaks, stews, and grilled or smoked foods, this food friendly wine is very flexible, and we think will really please the wine lovers in your life. And they may just ask you where the hell you found out about this wine. If they ask, you tell them you learned about it right here on The Wine Pair Podcast! Wines reviewed in this episode: 2019 Bodegas Sierra Salinas Mo, 2020 Ego Bodegas Goru Verde, and 2019 Bodegas Volver Tarima Hill Old Vines You can find all of our episodes and reach out to us at our website https://www.thewinepairpodcast.com/ or on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, and wherever you get your podcasts.
