Amos Yang leads these two hour-long workshops focused on gaining body awareness, musical confidence, and learning how to channel stress into more effective and satisfying playing. Register at https://amateurmusic.org/info/worksho... Session One: the Musician as Athlete Playing and rehearsing can be physically demanding! Learn to stay in shape regardless of how much or how little you are playing. Amos will give you strategies for strength and flexibilty, incorporating Alexander Technique and posture awareness. Session Two: a Musical Triathlon Playing in large ensembles and small ones can make different demands on the body. Amos will discuss his life as orchestra player, chamber musician, and teacher. He’ll describe the attributes and skills necessary for each path, how each discipline differs, and how each informs the others. Who should attend? All musicians welcome, especially instrumentalists. How should You prepare? We may post some selections for review, but you don’t need to study up: just come prepared for a journey of discovery with Amos. Please have a mirror handy so you can see yourself playing during the workshop. Is there a cost? Tickets are $25 per session, $40 for both sessions. How do I attend?
