November 8th, 1942 - As the Battle for Stalingrad continues to rage in the East, the United States makes final preparations to join the fight against the European Axis powers, with Operation Torch - the US invasion of French North Africa. Since the Fall of Paris, these colonies have been under control of the German backed Vichy puppet government. Now, the Allies intend to liberate them, and break the enemy's stranglehold over the Mediterranean. While the 1st Infantry Division is slated to land in Algeria, the 3rd Infantry has been ordered into Morocco. Nicknamed "The Rock of the Marne" for their heroism in World War I, this will be their first action of the Second Great War. Tasked with securing the village of Fedala, the fresh soldiers of the 3rd can only hope to live up to the reputation of those that served before them. Welcome to Part 17!! I cannot believe we've come this far. Technically speaking, this is also the 19th episode I've recorded - I found out that while United Fronts is largely chronological, it still breaks up the missions into separate campaigns (Battle of France, Case Blue, Stalingrad, etc.), so if the end of one overlaps the beginning of another, they finish out the campaign before swapping perspectives. That said, these two Fedala episodes take place one day before the next two Stalingrad episodes, which are already recorded and finished. This won't be the last time something like this happens, either. I'll have to do some more reshuffling with Sicily/Kursk down the road, and later on even more with some of the Market Garden missions. Hopefully, I'll be able to maintain enough of a backlog to upload consistently. Also, if anyone notices, for this mission I did have to shut off the shader/ENB mod, as it was causing wild texture glitches all over the place. I ran into this a couple times in previous missions, but it was always isolated and I could avoid it by either restaring the game/reloading the save, or just not looking at the affected area. Not so this time, they were everywhere, and restarting didn't fix it. It was so bad I was actually worried my graphics card was starting to go - and to be fair, maybe it is. I thought I'd have to record Fedala on my laptop instead, but at the last second decided to just try shutting off the shader mod, and that turned out to be the issue. Overall, I think it still looks great and honestly not even that different - just less orange and less sharp. I'll be turning it back on for the next mission, as long as there are no similar issues. As always, using the United Fronts Mod, which combines CoD 1, UO and a ton of custom modded missions together into one massive campaign, with updates to textures, sounds, weapons, numerous quality of life tweaks and changes, etc. Check out their ModDB page for a more comprehensive description, links included below. No HUD, shut off via mod options. Didn't add any music to the gameplay this time around, only over the intro video - added a track from the first Killzone game I thought fit pretty well.
