http://paulkellyvet.com Spay Clinic Hi my name is Paul Kelly I am a veterinarian and my practice is located on the Fairyhouse road just outside the village of Ratoath in county Meath. My practice is 16 miles from O'Connell Bridge in Dublin. My practice is called Paul Kelly veterinary surgery. In my practice I have a Spay clinic where we cater for neutering and spaying cats and dogs. I specialise mostly with small animals and exotics pets. One of the most common procedures I carry out most days is neutering and spaying bitches-female dogs and female cats, that's if they are at least six months old. That's the earliest age at which you can carry that particular procedure on dogs or cats. The best time is just before your puppy or kitten comes into season. Spaying or neutering a puppy or cat means removing the reproductive organs i.e. removing the ovaries and the whom from the animal. This can be carried out using the conventional and routine method, which is removing the reproductive organs by surgery while the animal is under aesthetic. Normally this means creating an incision which can range between 25mm -1 inch to 100mm or four inches depending on the age and the size of the dog. Laparoscopic surgery involves for dogs over ten kilos one five millimetre and one ten millimetre incision. In some cases where the dog is carrying a lot of weight that incision may have to be bigger. However this procedure minimised the trauma to the dog and they recover very quickly. It's a day surgery, the dog or cat comes in after fasting from midnight before and when the surgery is completed they normally go home that same afternoon. Before surgery all animals undergo a full health check to ensure that they are fit to undergo surgery. The costs involved are, if it's the routine surgery they range from €120 to €350 if it's a very large dog. For laparoscopic surgery the costs range from €200 to €350 for the larger dog. The cost for spaying cats are approximately €90 to €100 depending on whether the cat is a three or six kilo cat. If you have any questions about either form of spaying and neutering don't hesitate to call me at our spay clinic at 01-8027604 or visit our website at http://paulkellyvet.com. Thank you for listening.
