🎧 Listen to "The Standard Joe" by Joe Henderson in FULL and get your copy here: redrecords.it/store/joe-henderson/the-standard-joe-joe-henderson The inspiration behind "The Standard Joe" came in winter 1984 when the late Stanley Crouch attended a performance by the saxophonist at Greenwich Village’s Village Vanguard. Henderson was appearing in a quartet format, but it was when the pianist laid-out and Henderson began working through his ideas with the musically simpatico Ron Carter on bass and Al Foster on drums that Crouch had a lightbulb moment. “Then the music was really exciting”, he recalled. “It came to me that Henderson should be recorded in performance at the Vanguard and with only bass and drums. Henderson liked the idea”.
