Earlier this year, the City of Downey renewed their agreement with Calmet Services, which called for brand new collection trucks and residential containers. Like almost every hauler in the region, Calmet partnered with Can Do Services for the replacement of the residential carts. Commercial bins were never replaced and remained in service. Seen here, is one of the two teams rolling out fresh, brand new Otto Edge carts to part of the Wednesday collection area. Calmet requested that carts be rolled out on the day before collection, so this was all filmed on a Tuesday morning. Monday route residents received their new Ottos on Saturdays rather than Fridays for some odd reason. Residents received the same 65 gallon trash cart as they had before, and larger, 95 gallon recycling and green waste carts. From what the attached guidebooks say, this was meant to make it easier for residents recycle and throw away less. This video starts off at a mellow pace, but things speed up as the crew gets in the zone. This was the first street of the day with almost all multi-family lots. That's why you see multiple sets being delivered at one spot. The crew actually put the axles in the wrong slot on the black carts by mistake, which is why they lean more toward the front. The forward lean happens when you put 10-inch wheels in the axle slot for 8-inch wheels. Oops haha. Three members of the crew made appearances in past videos. Drew (orange shirt) and Charlie (I think; tosses out blue stack) were seen in the video of Lake Forest's old carts being removed; and Chris (gray hat) was seen in the video I posted of Republic's carts being removed from Artesia. Not everything could fit here, so there will be a part 2, which I'll post later. Comment, rate, and enoy the show. Thanks to the super chill crew for making this video possible.
