Judge Robert Perry sentenced Johannes Mehserle to 2 years in prison, for the involuntary manslaughter conviction he was convicted of in the shooting death of Oscar Grant on Friday afternoon. Involuntary manslaughter in the State of California carries a 2,3 or 4 year sentence, and Perry went with the minimum. After hearing arguments from both the prosecutor and defense, Perry also dismissed the jury's verdict regarding the gun allegation use, which carried a maximum of 10 years. With 146 days credit and with a 50 percent requirement, he will be released in of May 2011 and under parole supervision for another year.
