Songwriters: Mike Aiken, Michael Glass Recorded & mixed: Andrew Piland Mastered: Jeff Carroll, Bluefield Mastering Video: Annie Johnson JUST OUR PRICE TO PAY was written out of a need to support others who are losing their freedoms and way of life. Written out of a need to lend a voice, support and solidarity to people who are being disenfranchised daily by their own government. Written with the belief that a songwriter can help affect change through verbalizing what others may not be able to. It really started as a way for writers Mike Aiken and Michael Glass to air their own frustrations and concerns with how drastically the USA was quickly changing. Watching a country they both love being destroyed, watching the rise of fascism and all that comes with it - political corruption, fear, loss of freedoms. Or it can be viewed as an historical tale about Nero and the fall of Rome. After writing the tune Mike and Amy decided it needed to be cut and released ASAP. They worked with friend and engineer/producer, Andrew Piland in Nashville, TN to track the song, which was completed in two days. This brought about the need for a video. With the song being about political changes and not Mike & Amy, they opted to deliver the message with a lyric video. Again, looking at their like-minded circle of talented friends they asked musician/videographer Annie Johnson to take on the project. She accepted the challenge and produced the ‘Just Our Price to Pay’ lyric video. Lyrics: You’ve got all the money, more than your fair share You’ve got all the power, thats why you just don’t care You see somebody suffering, look the other way They ask for some assistance , you say sorry not today If you could walk around, in someone else’s shoes Maybe then you’d understand why some don’t get to choose Doors were opened long ago, you just walked right in Plant the seed of corporate greed, do anything to win What are we going to do about tomorrow A lot of us can’t make it through today Forcing us to face this life in sorrow Especially when you tell us Its just our price to pay When people disappear, taken from the street The icy grip upon them, a new reality Black van leaves a hole, where they used to be Say what we believe , become a casualty What are we going to do about tomorrow A lot of us can’t make it through today Forcing us to face this life in sorrow Especially when you tell us Its just our price to pay We all want something better, than what we had before But the Emperor upon the hill, keeps stealing more and more He just keeps right on taking , giving nothing in return He plays the mad man's fiddle while we watch this country burn Watch this country burn, Watch this country burn While we watch this country burn ISRC: QMVBW2500001 MikeandAmyAiken.com
