Route of the Dolomites from Sacile, Italy to Sillian, Austria. #AbuelosMochileros #CitiesWeKnow Cities we Know. Postcards to Share. Cortina d’Ampezzo and Lake Misurina where the polished charm of Corso Italia meets the jagged majesty of the Dolomites. Between the ring of the historic bell tower and the pink glow of the peaks at dusk, this valley captures the very best of the Alpine Dolce Vita. Sharing a piece of the "Queen of the Mountains" with you today. Lake Misurina sits at 1,754 meters in the Dolomites and is known for its air quality and the reflection of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo on its surface. Visitors walk the 2.6 km lakeside path, rent pedal boats to move across the water, or take the Col de Varda chairlift for views of the Sorapiss and Marmarole massifs. The lake serves as a gateway to Lake Antorno and the road leading to the Three Peaks, providing access for photographers, hikers, and those visiting the World War I trenches of Monte Piana. The route from Cortina d’Ampezzo to San Candido crosses the Sexten Dolomites, a region that served as a primary front line during the Great War. In San Candido, the Romanesque Collegiate Church stands as a 12th-century monument featuring a distinct defensive layout and a historic 13th-century fresco cycle. The Cemetery serves as a burial site for soldiers who fought in the surrounding peaks, where high-altitude warfare was conducted in extreme winter conditions. This transition from the Ampezzo valley into the Val Pusteria marks the historical border between Italian and Austro-Hungarian territories, We crossed the border into East Tyrol, reaching the Austrian town of Sillian. We visited the Marktplatz (Market Square), where we admired the historical four-columned stone canopy. This pavilion protects the statue of St. John Nepomuk, the patron saint of bridges and guardian against floods, which stands prominently near the Parish Church of Maria Himmelfahrt (the Assumption of Mary). The church, is a stunning example of Late Gothic architecture with a rich Baroque interior. We have finished remembering our #RouteOfDolomites from Sacile, Italy, to Sillian, Austria. We are sharing our postcards watched the closing ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games on TV on Feb 22, 2026. Our travel souvenirs have evolved from small paintings, crafts, magnets, and patches to postcards. #PostcardsToShare #RouteOfDolomites #abuelosmochileros_italy #abuelosmochileros_cortinadampezzo Music: Hidden Frozen Lake.
