At a time when COVID-19 was devastating health systems and economies around the world, South Korea was gaining international recognition for flattening the curve – adeptly limiting the spread of infections to prevent its healthcare system from being overwhelmed. The secret sauce was digital technology, and it is through this technology that South Korea is delivering excellent healthcare for its citizens. In 2023, the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) spoke with representatives from South Korea’s governmental organizations and hospitals on how they are harnessing technology to improve patient outcomes, achieve operational efficiencies and reduce costs.
