Tracerco uses a small radiation source in conjunction with a specialized detector to monitor changes in signal intensity. By aligning the source and detector opposite each other readings can be taken over the total elevation of the vessel while the vessel is on-line. Vessel internals and different liquid phases all absorb varying amounts of the signal, enabling Tracerco to measure bulk levels and detect vessel internals. Gamma scan like this is often used to measure hydraulic parameters and check for damaged internal hardware. The original technology was developed by Tracerco more than 50 years ago and has been constantly improved with faster and more accurate data acquisition.
