Gaming-gambling convergence I: Social casino games

Presenters: Devin J. Mills, Texas Tech University Andrew (Hyounsoo) Kim, University of Calgary Dr. Devin J. Mills is an Assistant Professor within the Department of Community, Family, and Addiction Sciences at Texas Tech University. His research explores the development of behavioral addictions, specifically video gaming and gambling disorder, with the intention of identifying factors that facilitate sustained recovery across the lifespan. Andrew (Hyounsoo) Kim is a PhD candidate in clinical psychology at the University of Calgary. He is currently completing his psychology residency at the Substance Use and Concurrent Disorders at The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. Andrew’s research examines the transdiagnostic mechanisms of substance and behavioral addictions as well as their mental health comorbidities. Andrew has also examined the convergence of gambling and gaming through the context of social casino games and loot boxes. He will be joining the Department of Psychology at Ryerson University as an assistant professor in clinical psychology in July of this year.
