Northern Tanzania: The Greatest Wildlife Spectacle on Earth

The great national parks and game refuges of Northern Tanzania host some of the world’s most breathtaking wildlife spectacles. In February and March, up to a million Wildebeests, a half-million Thomson’s Gazelles, and a quarter-million Common Zebras, in herds of tens of thousands, concentrate together to calve on the short-grass plains prior to the rains. Our Northern Tanzania tour is one of our greatest adventures, offering daily birding extravaganzas and abundant big game—Elephant, Giraffe, Zebra, Lion, Leopard, and Cheetah—in the famous national parks of Arusha, Serengeti, Lake Manyara, Tarangire, and the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. VENT tour leader Geoff Lockwood will be our guide for this online journey, sharing photographs and highlighting the world-class birding and wildlife viewing opportunities available in Northern Tanzania. Geoff and a local leader will co-lead our February 17-March 5, 2026 tour (and February 16-March 4, 2027), Northern Tanzania: Birding & Wildlife in the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater & Beyond, with expected field lists of 400 to 450 species of birds and 40 to 50 species of mammals.
