The training institution, the Graduate Institute of Financial Sciences (GIFS), is concerned that over 700 of its students who have completed their courses have not been officially certified by the Insurance Sector Education and Training Authority (INSETA). This has left the students in limbo, unable to work in the sector or be promoted within the country's financial services industry. Last year, GIFS also complained to the Public Protector that the INSETA has knowledge of alleged ghost learners who have been awarded fake certificates. It has also alleged tender irregularities. After GIFS complained to the Public Protector, the INSETA attempted to de-accredit it as a learning institution. GIFS went to court and had its accreditation reaffirmed. OUTA is now supporting GIFS in its fight to rid the INSETA of alleged corruption. To further discuss this matter, we're joined in the studio by Graduate Institute of Financial Sciences CEO Dr Kershen Pillay and Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse CEO Wayne Duvenage. We extended an invitation to the Insurance SETA, and have responded by saying that their board chairperson Sihle Ngubane says they are awaiting their lawyers before they can comment on the matter which is subjudice.
