In this virtual Literacy Through the Arts Unit: It's Okay to Be Me, teaching artist Leah Young leads students through several activities about loving who we are for all that we are. In this video, she reads "I Love the Skin I'm In" by Mayma Raphael, illustrated by Haily Cryan. Leah is an Atlanta born singer/actor. She currently trains with the AMAW New York acting studio. When not performing, she is supporting others with bicultural and bilingual immersion. Leah is so honored to be a lifelong storyteller, holding reverence and compassion for the human experience. Literacy Through the Arts builds students’ reading, writing and verbal expression skills through a multi-arts curriculum in theater, literature, music, visual arts and dance. Through art, K-2 students develop critical and creative thinking and a vocabulary to express ideas, stories and emotions. Literacy Through the Arts is made possible in part by public funds from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the NYC Council. Literacy Through the Arts is also made possible in part by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. About Arts For All: Arts For All’s mission is to offer accessible artistic opportunities to children in the New York City area who face socio-economic, physical, or emotional barriers to exploring the arts. Through Arts For All, professional artists work with youth organizations to build Arts For All’s Core Values: Self-Confidence, Self-Expression, Teamwork, Resilience, and Creativity. #artsforallnyc #art #education #selfconfidence #selfexpression #teamwork #resilience #creativity
