Saturday 26th June 2010. Probably the only people not enjoying the glorious summer heat where the crew of 6024 who, having struggled with a recalcitrant fire, finally gave up and embarked on a rebuild at Frome, adding 40 minutes to the schedule. To reduce the risk of further delays, the back-up Western was rushed back from Exeter and attached to the front at Taunton, which made my trip to Whiteball to witness the King pulling a proper load, a waste of time! Logistics dictated a spot between Totnes and Plymouth for the double-headed leg of the tour and although the summer growth along Rattery bank left a lot to the imagination, it gave time to pass a shortened stop in Plymouth to film at Treboul in wonderful evening light whilst the St Germans cricket team played a home game in the distance. A severe speed restriction through St Germans goes some way to explain the slow progress up the bank, but I am sure the crew were also thinking of preserving the shape of the fire by going easy on the regulator. My tentative (jerky) zoom-in on the pass was the result of trying to cut out a late arriving photographer who had inadvertently moved down into my shot.
