"Finding Filipino Comforts While Living in Jamaica" As a Filipino living in Jamaica, finding familiar things from back home can be a little adventure on its own. Locating Filipino ingredients like bagoong (fermented shrimp paste), suka (vinegar), or even pancit noodles can be a challenge. There aren't Filipino-specific stores around, but with a bit of creativity, I've learned to substitute or find alternatives. Sometimes, I visit Asian markets in bigger cities like Kingston to find familiar ingredients, or even connect with the small Filipino community here to swap goods or recipes. Even though Jamaican culture has become a second home, there's something comforting about being able to recreate a taste of the Philippines, even in the Caribbean.
