"La Conchita Point" CA. surfing

This was a fair day for La Conchita Point located NW Ventura County California, just a few miles south down the coast highway 101 from the famous Rincon Point surf break on the Santa Barbara county line. Mussel Shoals is the community that lives right along this stretch of the beach. As you can see in this video the wave offers different degrees of surfing skills from intermittent to very advanced! On the biggest days ( although not shown here) guys will shoot that pier from the north side which is extremely gnarly with some backwash and critical pitching lips, they will then sling shot a very fast down the line section with many bottom hazards including deep holes and sharp rocks- dry at times. Seen in this video background is where the guys are taking off which seems at this size a little to deep. On bigger days you can get past that area and get into a little more of a safer zone with a more predictable tapered shape lined up shoulder for the intermittent surfers, although still a few boulders waiting for lost boards. In the foreground of this video is where that last line of rocks, kind of looks like a natural shallow jetty is the safest zone for the novice surfer to get a few smaller peelers. Low to medium tide seems to be the best here, also needs a fairly decent size winter W or WNW swell DEC JAN FEB to make that long swell wrap inside the Channel Islands narrow window blocking off the coast. if you have a question leave a comment, I will be updating this description a little more soon.
