(9 Oct 2018) The investigative group Bellingcat is reporting that one of the two suspects in the poisoning of an ex-spy in England is a doctor who works for Russian military intelligence. Bellingcat said on its website on Monday that the man British authorities identified as Alexander Petrov is actually Alexander Mishkin, a trained doctor working for the Russian military intelligence unit known as GRU. According to the report, Mishkin was a student at the "S.Kirov" Military Medical Academy in St.Petersburg from 2001. Mishkin studied at the Academy's 4th Faculty, which trains military doctors for Russia's naval armed forces. According to public databases, while Mishkin was studying in St Petersburg he was living at 12 Akademika Lebedeva street. This was confirmed by the current resident of the apartment when asked by an AP reporter. The Bellingcat website claims Mishkin travelled from Russia to Salisbury, England, using Alexander Petrov as an alias. British officials said, when they brought charges in the March nerve agent attack on Sergei Skripal and his daughter, that they believed Petrov was an assumed name. Bellingcat reported last month that the other suspect also travelled under an alias and was a decorated military agent named Anatoliy Chepiga.
