When Noa Pothoven died in the Netherlands, it was widely reported she had been euthanized. This turned out to be sloppy reporting; Noa only allowed herself to die by refusing any nutrition. Although the Netherlands didn't officially kill her, Noa was still a victim of the culture of death that the Netherlands has allowed to grow within it since it legalized euthanasia in 2001. Since that time, more and more people have chosen to end their lives through patient assisted suicide. But a death culture does more than just kill people: it kills the idea of the intrinsic value people have; it destroys equality and human rights by creating a caste system; and, it destroys hope for the future.
