Various exteriors of audience with king STORYLINE: Former Afghan king Mohammad Zaher Shah reflected on Monday on the suffering of the people of Kabul since he went into exile in Italy 29 years ago. In an interview with Associated Press Television News, Shah said that he is confident in the reconstruction of Afghanistan after the tribal council, or Loya Jirga, institutes a new permanent government. The new government will replace Interim President Hamid Karzai's temporary administration. The former king stressed his gratitude to the American troops for their peacekeeping efforts in Afghanistan. Tribal leaders have been visiting the former king in his palace in Kabul almost daily since his return last month. The audiences have allowed disparate Afghan tribes to raise the particular interests of their people as well as to pay their respects to the former monarch.
