Nether portals are made out of obsidian, which you can find in caves, or by pouring water on any lava sources 2. Portal minimum size is 4 blocks wide x 5 blocks tall. You do not need the corners 3. You can make portals as large as you want, but they can only have 4 sides (square or rectangle shape) 4. For every 1 block you travel in the nether, you move 8 blocks in the overworld.
