When the terms such as Upload and download are used, I assume that Download means for me to download/get a file from a server/site, and upload means for me to send a file to a site ;-) That seems backwards to the My Genius tool. So, let’s see if I can clarify some definitions and processes. Some helpful information that may help others in their quest to flash/tune/program their vehicles Engine Control Modules (ECU or Computer) SLR and BTMotor (Bren Tuning) use the same handheld programing tool manufactured in Italy My Genius (dimsport.it) – Here is their website. The device has a ODB (II) connector and is probably used by most companies to “flash” ECU’s. It is also used by the manufacturer and the deals to troubleshoot your vehicles computers as well as provide needed updates to the vehicles computers. The MyGenius software is generic from the aspect it is not “branded” for the tuner (just the outside of the device with the tuners logo). The software seems old compared to more modern application, so I guess they stay true to the adage if it’s not broke don’t fix it! Its “clunky” though. So, the process is straight forward, especially if you have already done it once or twice. Disclaimer: Tampering with or “reprograming” your ECU (Engine Control Module) is a risky process and could render your vehicle undrivable. So, like ANY modification you do to your vehicle understand that you are doing this at your own risk, and the risk of your vehicle. Companies who provide “tuning” service and hardware are very carful to make sure you are informed of this and that they can not be held liable if “something” happens during this process, so you have been warned. If you can’t afford to pay the consequences of such actins that could result in damage to your vehicle or loss of the ability to use the vehicle for reliable transportation, then you are best not to modify your vehicles. Doing so in many cases VOID YOUR WARRANTY. You have been warned) So usually, the first steps once you receive your hand-held tuning device is to take inventory to be sure you have everything you need. In my case with the SLR tuner I received a box, that contained the handheld tuner, a ODB cable that will be plugged into your ECU/Diagnostic port on your vehicle and the other end (DB25) plugs into the handheld device. This is secured in place by two thumb screws. Be sure these are snug; you don’t want that end of the cable coming unplugged during any of the operations where you’re reading or writing to the ECU. Since the ZH2 like many newer European motorcycles come with the newer Euro5 6 pin cable (Usually RED). My kit contained a OSB2 female connector to a male Euro6 6 pin cable. This is a friction mount cable so be sure it is connected securely; it should not come disconnected on its own without a lot of effort. You also get a USB A to B cable, the B side (Square) connects to the hand-held device (MyGenius), the other end connects to either a laptop computer, a desktop computer or for connecting to your vehicle, you will need a 1 Amp or greater power adaptor/brick like for charging a portable device like a phone. (Not included). Now that we have everything, we can begin the process Step 1 – Although not always necessary (an ounce of protection is better than none) you should connect your vehicles batter to some sort of charger or “battery tender” such that may be used when storing your vehicle for long periods without use. I highly recommend it as if the vehicles battery goes dead, or drops below the usable state, you can cause damage to your ECU.
